"I saw Dean for counselling sessions, over quite a long period of time. He is an excellent listener, was patient and always courteous, and made me feel at ease. He gave me a secure space to just be, and I really liked the minutes meditation we did at the start of sessions, that enabled me to shut out the chaotic life around me, and get me really focused in on myself. Whatever I wanted to talk about or whatever was going on with me, he never made me feel judged. Over my time working with him he gave me some invaluable perspectives, that helped me to reach my own conclusions on my issues, and has helped me go forwards with more knowledge about myself, and I now have some excellent coping strategies that assist me in being my better self. "I was unsure what I was looking for in a counsellor but from my first session with Dean I felt comfortable and supported in a calm, safe space. At the time my anxiety levels were high and I was caught in a spiral of negative thoughts and emotions. Dean helped me to find ways of escaping the spiral and to identify the importance of a range of creative pursuits. Dean was adept at recalling what had gone before and picking up threads that had been unresolved. "As I embarked on Dean's mindfulness course I quickly found there was a lot more to mindfulness than I had previously thought. It's definitely more than just pausing to take some deep breaths! The course was well structured, with a really helpful introduction, exploring the seven attitudes of mindfulness, with broadening content each week, giving me a deeper understanding and practice of mindfulness and meditation. I appreciated the home practice tasks, giving me specific things to try out and bring into my daily routines. Dean led the way with care and compassion, allowing space for any emotions which arose in the meditations.
The course has helped me in three ways:
1) I'm more aware of the richness of life, with more awareness and appreciation of sounds, tastes, sensations;
2) I feel like after I've been mindful I'm more present in my interactions with others; and
3) I now have a toolkit of meditations, short and long, to ease any anxiety, panic attacks and overthinking.
